CEO's Statement
'There is always room at the top'.
'We have ensured that the service we provide has stolen a march on the competition and therefore we will remain at the forefront of innovative and effective contract broking'.
'We infuse our operation with the correspondence of a PWC brand and work within a business relationship model worthy of the likes of Cazenove.
This, combined with the energy of this industry, means that we are a) understood clearly and b) not just focussed on allowing creativity to precede a code of ethics and proper management. We do not diversify, but stick to the main job in hand'.
CEO's Statement
Alexandra spent 4 years at MARS, 7 years at UBS and, after completing an MBA, 4 years in the contract publishing industry. Misseldine Ziga Ltd. was set up in July 2002 in order to consolidate her corporate knowledge and inject a mindset within an industry about which she is passionate.
'It was borne of the desire to make a real quantifiable difference, in a business sense, which is a challenge of itself, but to come from a premise of making a difference to society at large.
We attempt to work under the guidelines of 'a good Christian attitude' which we think helps the building of trust, in an industry which is still evolving'.
Everyone truly wins in this industry. Our clients' audience, the FT-SE 100 advertisers, the publisher, MZL and society at large.
MZL first year in business 2002-2003
As a start-up company, MZL was self-funding. This decision was taken in order to remain in control of our own business and to reduce costs that would have been incurred vis-à-vis corporate loans or venture capital re-payments.
Our first year in business saw MZL negotiating contracts with some of the UK's most prominent industrialists.
MZL second year in business 2003-2004
June 2004 saw the launch of our first contract. This was ground-breakingly in the diversity sector, on behalf of ZEE TV. ZEE reaches over 70% of the UK Asian market which represents £32billion pounds of disposable income. No (very few) UK FT-SE 100 companies were 'talking' to this audience as the mediums through which to do this were not felt to be 'quite comfortable' for one reason or another for most mainstream companies. We provided that conduit to market in the form of the UK's first 'Sky' magazine for the 'brown pound'.
What this essentially meant to ZEE was that we provided a catalogue of prominent blue-chip companies who had, by definition, 'bought' their brand and their audience. This paved the way to invite sponsors and advertisers to join ZEE in other activities such as the Asian Film Awards, the Bollywood 'Oscars'. This awards ceremony is broadcast to a worldwide audience of 250 million people. The magazine itself is read by over 1 million British Asians.
MZL second year in business 2003-2004
Our main sphere of activity for the second year focused on the consolidation of business strategy. The relationship content of client/publisher support broadened as the demand increased for negotiation to support the contract.
Our focus from June was to devise workable strategies to enable the flow of information between both client and publisher become more timely which would allow MZL to take a back-seat with regard to the continuation of the relationship.
Further contracts will appear in the media spotlight as of December 2004. However, as we are a non-diversifying company, it was important to us to take a long-term view and therefore 'cut our teeth' on the experience of our first contract as an independent broker.
Management Team
Our site was created to act as a presentation of our skillset & our approachability. As a corporate, we also aim for a smidge of sex appeal in an otherwise brittle web world....
Every member of the team is encouraged to utilise the services of a personal fitness trainer for one hour each day, provided by MZL during company time. The Fitness Suite is based within our building. This ensures that the personal needs of individuals are met and promotes our ethos of internal corporate social responsibility that reflects back on the operation.
Management Team
Rupal has been known to me for the past 13 years. She is responsible not only as a P.A. but for providing research on a day-to-day basis which provides our publisher with vital industry information which they may use at their discretion.
As we operate under the mindset of a 'private bank' i.e. both client and publisher are treated like a private client of a private bank and therefore deal directly with me on most occasions, Rupal provides 'back-at-base' support that is truly invaluable.
The 1-2-1 element of our operation is one of our defining points of differentiation. It is too easy to 'pass the buck' in our experience. Society, generally, is on the 'other end 'of this practise by most corporates and, as a personal source of frustration, it is one point we were determined would elevate our status and provide the continuity our strategic partners want - they didn't specify it - because they didn't need to....
Management Team
Jason has been known to me for the past 14 years. He is both an expert on technology and has the rare ability to also deal with clients on an intellectual basis. He has good communication skills and expertise in magically creating bridges between needs and wants.
Servers, hosting, DSL - all companies are somewhat at the mercy of the technology industry that enables us to work more effectively - and despair when things go wrong. The rest of the IT Team step in to provide continuity to this side of the business.
Advisors
MZL has immense gratitude for the following Advisors who have been with us from the outset and through their continued support and loyalty, played an effective part in the growth of MZL. Whomever said 'never work with friends' has been proved wrong.
Nigel has been known to me for the last 27 years. A former Director and a colleague at Phillips & Drew and latterly UBS, he was and has remained, a 'confidant'. He has provided a sounding board on matters of a client relationship nature. He is of the 'old school' of good manners and reasoned behaviour. He has a steady, measured approach on matters where challenges have arisen.
Advisors
Edward has been known to me for the last 27 years. He is both an academic and has vast experience in negotiating complex gas & oil contracts in Russia, Italy and the United Kingdom. He is pragmatic, steadfast and has given me great support when seasoned advice was needed.
Mark has been known to me for the last 21 years. He is a close friend and a soul-mate. He has demonstrated good business acumen and through his many dealings within the public hospitality genre, both in the UK and South Africa, has a good sense of not only what people want, but what they will 'get away with if they can'. He has an all-embracing view on cutting through the detail & getting to the matter in hand.
